Louisa Hargrave, co-founder of the Long Island Wine Industry we know today, will speak about its legacy and future on April 7th at 7 PM in the Peconic Landing Auditorium, 1500 Brecknock Road, Greenport. The Public is cordially invited.
Louisa Hargrave and her then husband Alex came to the North Fork in 1973 for the express purpose of planting French wine grape varieties and making premium wine — something no one else had done here. Her story is engagingly told in her Viking/Penguin book, The Vineyard (available in the Peconic Landing Library). For 15 years she shared her subsequently hard-earned expertise in a syndicated column published by the Times Review Newsgroup and the Southampton Press. From 2004 to 2009 she was the director of the Stony Brook University Center for Wine, Food and Culture. She has also been a NY State Licensed Real Estate Salesperson since 2003.
Son Zander continues the family business as the winemaker for Pellegrini Vineyard, and daughter Anne is a welcome visitor when getting a break from evaluating fine art for Christie’s.
