DESCRIPTION:This remarkable collection features the astronomical artwork of Peconic Landing’s own Joan Tripp. For more information or to schedule a viewing\, contact our Cultural Arts Coordinator at 631-477-3800 ext. 229. \nAbout the Artist: \nJoan Tripp was born in Sag Harbor\, New York. Her father studied art at Beaux de Art in Paris and her grandfather showed in the Royal Academy of England. She was given art lesson in oil painting in her early years. She graduated from Ithaca College with a B.S. in Music Education and from CW Post with a Masters in Special Education. She taught both in Rhinebeck\, NY and Elwood\, Long Island. She also attended classes in Classical Art at Hofstra University. She painted with Micheal Viera in East Hampton and was represented in the Romany Kramoris Gallery in Sag Harbor. In 2017 Joan moved to St. Petersburg\, Florida. There she showed in the Woodfield Fine Art Gallery\, The Marean Art Center\, and The Warehouse Art District where she has a solo show of her astronomical art. She is a member of the International Association of Astronomical Artists. Joan has been a member of the Peconic Landing community since 2022 and is a member of The Friends of Classical Music\, the Art Club\, the Brecknock Hall committee\, the Employee Appreciation Fund\, and serves as a representative to the Cooperative Board. She presented a class in Neurographics to members in the Fall of 2023.

DESCRIPTION:April 4 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm \nFree \nA monumental piece of music at Notre-Dame de Paris\, a monument of art history. \nThe Mass in B Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach transcends categories: neither religious nor profane\, it is full of fervor\, contemplation and emotion; neither Lutheran nor Catholic\, it is both\, therefore transcending the very principle of ecumenism. A monumental piece of music at Notre-Dame de Paris\, a monument of art history. Performing this piece in the cathedral with the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris (formerly known as Ensemble Orchestral de Paris)\, which he has conducted since 1998\, was a dream of the conductor John Nelson. \nStage director Olivier Simonnet provided a very talented scenography for the performance: the cathedral not only provides a setting for a concert\, it is also an artistic element in the performance. The cast is composed of Major international soloists such as Ruth Ziesak\, Joyce DiDonato\, Daniel Taylor\, Paul Agnew and Dietrich Henschel. \nRegister here

Jerry Simons\, PA-C\, a member of the Medical Advisory Panel of Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Regional Tick-Borne Disease Resource Center\, will speak about the types of diseases that are carried by the different species of ticks found on Eastern Long Island\, and the symptoms\, diagnostic tests\, and treatments options that are available. DESCRIPTION:What happens when Garrick Ohlsson\, the first (and still only) American pianist to win the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw\, joins forces with The Cleveland Orchestra\, “America’s finest” (The New York Times)\, and their esteemed music director Franz Welser-Möst? Pure magic\, of course—and you can catch every note here as the legendary Ohlsson performs the culmination of Mozart’s historic contribution to piano literature: the 27th and final piano concerto\, a serene and lyrical B-flat masterpiece written soon before his death. The Cleveland Orchestra and Welser-Möst close out the evening with Bruckner’s beloved “Romantic” Symphony No. 4\, a nickname given by the composer himself to what may have been his most extensively revised work. By turns bellicose and rustic\, the Fourth evokes the sounds of a medieval city and forest\, including a brassy call to the hunt\, before coming to a grand climactic finish. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Archipelago of New York: The Magical Island World of NY
DESCRIPTION:The magical island world of New York\nAn evening with Sailor\, Photographer and Filmmaker Thomas Halaczinsky. \nUnbeknownst to many New Yorkers New York like Venice\, Hong Kong or Istanbul is an island city.  Spanning from New York Harbor to the East End of Long Island more than 70 islands form an archipelago.   Island cities are unique in many regards\, spanning from their socio-political make up to biodiversity.  Climate change and rising sea level are a particular challenge for highly populated islands cities like New York. \nStarting in 2012 Thomas explored this island world in a modern-day exploration by sailboat\, documented in his 2018  l book “Archipelago New York” published by Schiffer Books. \n2021/22 he wrote and directed a three-part documentary series for European Network ARTE by the same title\, with the main focus on nature of this island world. Thomas lives full time in Greenport and he is now working on a feature length documentary about Plum Island. \nThe 90-minute event comprises of stories from his journeys\, film clips and an outlook on his new film project about Plum Island.’ \nRegister here

DESCRIPTION:Rediscover the pieces by Stravinsky that sent shockwaves throughout the 20th century in the world of classical music! The Firebird and The Rite of Spring are treated to a spiritual reworking by Thierry Malandain\, director of the Centre Chorégraphique National Malandain Ballet Biarritz\, and his associate\, Martin Harriague. The pair of celebrated choreographers underline the religious role of The Firebird as a conduit of light linking Earth and Heaven. Their vision of The Rite of Spring emphasizes the tectonic power of the ballet through pulsating\, sophisticated choreography. \nThe premiere of The Rite of Spring at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in May 1913 was of course the stuff of legends: one of the greatest scandals in all of classical music history. To cite a firsthand account from painter Valentine Hugo\, speaking to journalist Georges Charensol in 1953: “Everything that has been written about the riot of The Rite of Spring doesn’t come close to reality. It was as if the theater had been hit by an earthquake\, it shook from the shock. You couldn’t hear the music for the shouting\, the insults\, and the whistles—and then came the slaps and the punches.” \nRegister here
